but that experience won't apply here.

@op just read the guide then read guides about you mobo.
When you get into it go slowly in increments since blck are a tad more touchy then multipliers when oc'ing.
Its nto rocket science and as long as you don't over volt it too much the system will not break.

i thought skylake dram frequency wasn't tied to base clock? or was i thinking of something else?

also idk i went from amd to my first unlocked intel (4790k), punched in a frequency (4.5) and then tried 1.15v, didn't work, but 1.17v has been 100% stable since day 1

oc'ing isn't hard just look up results other people got and try to give it some wiggle room since every chip isn't the same

granted, my 4790k won the silicon lottery but you know, just mess around
