FYI, the terms chip and chipset are often used interchangeably for a number of component classes (ex: WikiDevi uses the term chipset to refer to the wireless chip is a router or Wifi adapter).

That being said, I've had the best luck with drivers from the "chipset" vendor (i.e. Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Realtek, etc) than from the system/device OEM (Lenovo, Netgear, Asus, etc).
