so i think we are going to get a panasonic plasma.  here are the prices, shipping is free.  tax we will have to pay on top of this (i think)

UT50 50 inch - 774.99
ST50 50 inch - 999.99

UT50 55 inch - 949.99
ST50 55 inch - 1174.99

UT50 60 inch - 1249.99
ST50 60 inch - 1474.99

for the dollar, i would say the 55 inch are better, i can see paying $175 for 5 extra inches, but not $300 for another 5'' on top of that.
is getting the ST vs UT worth an extra $225? i've read that in a dark room, the blacks aren't that different, but the UT doesnt have alterable settings and the ST does, making the ST overall better.

$225 seems like a lot of money, and that could be better spent on maybe a soundbar or subwoofer or something

thinking of just getting the UT50, 55 inch. probably best for the money. room will be pretty dark usually anyway

that wall mount seems pretty great for the price, considering best buy's was like 400 bucks

ok ...with the ceiling finished below...the only way you CAN do it is drill down....you don't really NEED a junction box in the wall...but if that's a wifey MUST do...I can help ya with that...it's a lot harder than just drilling straight down though.

when you say drill down, do you mean through the wall? we aren't going to have any cables hanging out right?

it all depends on if you absolutely need to have a coax junction box in the wall or not...lemme draw a little pic

The blue line would be the drill bit

Well, as I previously stated, the Panasonic ST50 is in most professional opinions the most bang for buck TV of the year 2012, but the UT50 is again, nearly the same TV as the ST50 except its missing some features and among them is that it has a more reflective panel/inferior brightness making it much less ideal in dailight
... but the UT50 does provide you with an extreme deep black level that could previously (last year) only be found on Panasonics flagship plasma (the VT30). So your getting a high end black level and contrast --- at entry level price. Also, the inferior brightness means the ST50 has a higher contrast, but not by much.

So I don't know.. if the money is there.. go ST50, if you've read the difference between the two and don't find it strong enough to put in the enxtra bucks, go UT50. Either way you can't lose :)

the tv is going to go in the corner, going to rearrange furniture.

this second pic is the floor below where the existing coax is. right in the corner is where the outlet is on the other side of the wall, on the floor above

here is the outlet in the bedroom. the wall the dresser is on is the same wall (opposite side) as the floor below

Bro to do a box in the wall......requires that you drill UP from below and exactly hit the correct bay (pace between the studs) where you want the box....then you need one of the boxes...that you can mount to a stud thru a hole the same size as the box.

Further you need two ppl a small weight and some fishing line and a hi intensity flashlight...It's doable but it's not easy...I've had to completely rewire some houses...that had paneling on all the walls...expensive paneling....it CAN be done...but for YOUR peace of mind just do it like the picture ^^

The blue line is the drill bit

Yeah with carpet...just drill it like the picture...even if you called the cable guy...he would do the same....otherwise...you're gonna be messing with a bunch of expensive tools...and the very real chance of missing where you want the wall box to be...

...and drilling down...makes sure that at least the hole is exactly where you want it in the living room ^^

the money is there, but i just don't know if i'll see a difference or get 225 dollars in enjoyment out of a nicer panel...
but i also dont wanna drop a grand on a screen and regret not paying more for a better one

thanks! now the only other issue is to get the cable to the other side of the gap in the wall... but i think that seems to just be a removing drywall issue... probably not a big deal...

edit#2 - i suppose we could remove the molding on the top and get it across that way?

Dry wall is very simple once you have your basics down its just about making it look nice after you reattatch the sheet.

Be prepared to stucco and sand and then paint is all :p
