How is your research? :)

couldnt find a retailer under 2hour drive :(
i'm really wondering how do these perform so good vs tower speakers.

also, what kind of receiver would u recommend for a 2.1
ive seen some 5.1,7.1, 4k, bt, wifi , power
pre-amp, amp ( > receiver if for music mainly?), dac, power
im quite new to this hometheater stuff

im in no hurry since i have next to no room for a setup like this atm,
so im learning about basics, and quality products

The thing is the sub, as only benefit from tower speakers really is the low end extension when compared to quality bookshelf speakers. Bookshelf speakers often are better value vs towers as less money is used for cabinet. When you have quality bookshelf speakers with quality sub you won't need tower speakers as those should be crossed over at 80Hz, and both of said bookshelf speakers can go well under 80Hz. I have heard the LS50 and actually I was surprised by the bass they have, in the demo room I had to check the receiver is there a sub connected to it, and there was no sub. Philharmonics is ran by some well known speaker designers and for them it is more of a hobby and they are not trying to push big profits, so these guys offer really good value. So far every one who I know and have owned or head Phils have liked them a lot. If you want I can link more bookshelf speakers that perform well in same price range, but those said models are what I personally would look for.

As for receiver I would look for either Marantz, Denon or Yamaha with the features you need. Generally it is good to buy the best receiver in your budget, receiver budget should be around 25% of the cost of your speakers. So for example in your case around 2k for speakers and around 500 for receiver. What is your budget for receiver? http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/1.html this site has some amazing deals for good receivers.

Edit: What features you need from receiver? And what size your room is? Are you planning to move in bigger room in near furure? As the room size has a lot to do with sub/receiver choosing.

thanks for this explanation, much appreciated :)

25% for receiver sounds fair enough. tbh i dont need anything particular beside hdmi (maybe BT but meh)
is there a big difference between a receiver like these or a dedicated amp as far as sound quality?
i think an amp wouldnt be an ideal choice for home theater setup ( i suppose amp = music mainly , receiver = movies mainly + music on the side)

room atm is roughly 15ft x 15ft, but im thinking considering waiting and moving first ( in a near future ) before doing the big theater move( or go 2.0 until dedicated room)
also ty for this website some amazing deals

No I don't have atmos and I don't plan getting it either. Imo it is not worth it at all as there is almost no content for it and the price vs what you get is also quite high. For HT use imo 5.2 is optimal setup for price vs performance.

For sound quality you most likely can't tell the difference between using a receiver or dedicated amp. What dedicated amp gives you is more wattage, but speakers like this in small room wont need much power. You can get receiver now with pre outs and if you feel some day that you need more power all you need to do is add dedicated amp. In most cases it is actually better to get receiver for stereo music system as well as it gives you more flexibility.

In a such small room you could get away with sealed sub by HSU, PSA, SVS or Rythmik as well. I myself prefer sealed sub for more controlled bass and more natural roll off in low end. While ported sub has more spl in low end but steeper roll off.

For receiver I would look for either http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx4000/denon-avr-x4000-7.2-4k-ultra-hd-networking-receiver-w/airplay/1.html or http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/marsr7008/marantz-sr7008-9.2-network-home-theater-receiver-airplay/1.html as they have XT32 for sub EQ.

Ahh, where are you from? In some applications you most likely won't hear the difference between sealed and ported. Sealed subs are also easier to setup in room.

As you cant use A4L site in few months there should be coming new AVR models and by then you usually can get last years models with really good discounts. There really isn't reason to get newest model unless there is some specific feature you need, so good way to save money there.

Well, yes it will give you better experience when done properly. But the costs to do it are not worth it over 5.2 imo specially when there is basically no content for it.. Many have said that it will flop just like 3D movies did for home usage.
