Don't buy htib and you will do yourself a favor. What is your budget for surround sound? For projectors I know as much as you do.

Oh home theatre in a box? Na. I've never been an all on one box guy. I custom make or modify everything I get.

I'm not sure really. Depends on what the project cost. I wonder how far 1k will go.

I suppose you don't have receiver yet? Full system at 1k mark I would take a look on this: http://www.audioholics.com/recommended-systems/1000-5.1-channel-recommended-system

I myself put my system up in parts and that way you can build better system, but it will take more time and cost more of course, but in my opinion is worth it. First I bought receiver and front speakers, next I bought center and surround speakers. Then I upgraded my receiver and player and got subwoofer.

One good way to start is to get receiver, front speakers and sub. Then add center and surrounds when budget allows.

Edit: And yes, hometheater in box. They are really bad decision and you would just regret getting one of those later.

Vouch the "no HTIB". They're generally crap quality, and if you use a universal remote like Harmony, URC, or ProControl, the control function for HTIBs suck ass.

As for projectors, JVC and Epson make decent ones. They aren't cheap, though, and a projector + receiver + surround setup will run well over a grand.

I believe the 1k budget was for sound only, unless I miss understood him.

Yoke on my HE-500 got a crack in it. Friend on Head-Fi told me to ask about the HE-560 band, so I sent an email to the HiFiMan customer service.

It turns out the HE-560 band is compatible with the HE-500, and they will even send me one for free since my HE-500s are still under warranty.

Now you're gonna get good sound and good comfort. Never heard of anyone owning a HE-500 with HE-560 band before, maybe you're the only one ^_^

I'm not sure what I want to spend but I want to buy it over the months. I'll take a picture tomorrow of my living room when I get home. Maybe it can give everyone an idea of what I have to work with. At my buddy's house drinking beer tonight. :)

I need a mic to go with my headphones. I have heard mod mic being mentioned around here but that was a while ago. Is the mod mic 4.0 ( http://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00T6XUL8S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451979387&sr=8-1&keywords=mod+mic+4+0 ) good?

Yes, I have one and have no complaints. Some have argued about uni/omni directional tho. You can order it directly from AntLion as well.

I guess omni would pick up more background noise? Which do you use?

I have the muteless uni version. And yes, I would assume omni picks up more sound around.
