Security Researcher Warns of Vulnerability Affecting Several Netgear Routers

Vulnerabilities in routers is nothing new. A month or so back a researcher did the same thing I do and unpacked firmware binaries for routers and decompiled the http daemon and noticed some strange behavior with its socket handling. Turns out if you set your user agent to a specific string the router would bypass all pass worded prompts for you allowing you complete access to it locally or remotely without knowing the password.

Then again it was caused by lazy developers and not the NSA. There was a service on the router that needed access to the administrator settings of the router, but they decided to do it through the existing http interface. Of course they wouldn't know the users password so they hardcoded a backdoor to allow the services to gain access to it no matter what.
