What kind of sound are you looking for? v-shaped? neutral? basshead? treble-prominent?

The HD 598 and M50 sound completely different, but still easy to listen to. I would only use the HD 598 (treble-prominent) when I played fps games. Sennheiser makes really comfortable headphones. I used the M50 (neutral with a bit more bass) mostly for movies and music. Not very comfortable until you get velour earpads.

HD598 is one of most neutral headphones on price range, also more neutral than those M50 that are bass boosted and lack comfort. HD598 will be good for music and movies as well, not only gaming.

Great thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like I'll have to wait for those sennheisers to go on sale and jump on it! :)

I'm not looking for any particular type of sound. I just want to know what all the "audiophile" fuss is about :p I'm more or less curious if I can tell the difference between "audiophile grade" and regular.

HD598 is not high end, but for the price they sell for they are on top of the list. Good all around headphone with neutral sound.

Bass sounds recessed to me. Those are my applications for the HD598.

If you come from bass boosted headphones, yes you might feel like the bass is missing. But when you get used to neutral headphones the bass is there and it sounds good as well.

HD598 doesn't have alot of subbass just like it's bigger brothers but apart from that it's a great headphone for the price of $100-150.
