Tesora's Tizona Mechanical Keyboard Features a Detachable Numpad

A friendly plank for both lefties and righties

Quote
It's estimated that around 10 percent of the world's population are left-handed. If you whittle that down to PC gamers, the market quickly shrinks, though that doesn't come as any consolation to left-handed gamers lamenting the fact that most peripherals are geared toward right-handed users. Most, but not all. For example, Tesoro's Tizona mechanical keyboard sports an optional mechanical numpad that can attach to either side of the plank.

"Taking its name after Spanish Hero, El Cid's sword, Tizona allows gamers to choose the setup they want, either a comfortable space-saving tenkeyless or a classic full sized board with the numberpad on either the left or right side," Tesoro explains.

Alternately, you can attach dual numpads to the Tizona, one on each side, and go hog wild with macros. Regardless of how you configure the keyboard, Tizona serves up a mechanical typing experience with laser-etched keys.

Other features include N-Key rollover support (it can be switched to 6-Key rollover if you prefer), three thumb keys (configured as multimedia keys by default), two USB 2.0 ports, 1.8mm braided keys, and a few other tidbits.

Tesora says the Tizona keyboard and numpad will be available in North America soon for $90 and $40, respectively, or as a combo for $109.

Rig of the Month: DotaBox

A scratch-built case straight out of Defense of the Ancients

Quote
Jonathan '-=SpH!Nx=-' Garlit isn't a professional modder, but we're convinced that he's got potential. He's a die-hard fan of Dota, but with a son on the way he's giving up the game to become a full-time father. The DotaBox is a memento that represents seven years and countless hours of Dota matches. Jonathan says he wanted something to commemorate his favorite game and we think he did it justice. Enough that we're happy to make it our July Rig of the Month.

The scratch-built creation combines acrylic and wood in 4 distinctly recognizable renditions of the Dota 2 logo. Each is mounted onto the square chassis with backlit sheets of green acrylic cut to shape with a jigsaw and a rotary tool.

It’s not particularly powerful, but it doesn’t have to be. Jonathan says he was on a tight budget and wanted a simple system that could handle Dota 2 and HD video. The AMD A10-7850K APU does both and is a great alternative to stuffing a giant graphics card into the 10x10x10-inch case.

Two Cooler Master JetFlo 120mm fans join a 120mm Scythe Slip Stream and a giant 230mm Bitfenix Spectre fan to keep the system cool. There's a lesson to be learned here: airflow is important—even outside of gaming rigs. A 256GB SSD gives it speedy boot-ups with larger files relegated to network attached storage. A 450W Silverstone SFX Series power supply keeps everything running.

I will after all the BS with the apt. below me is done. Like tomorrow they are coming to replace the front windows downstairs and in MY apt. So have to move comp and desk, remove A/C temporarily, move bed etc. Then another week or two of finishing touches in the downstairs apt., then I'm back to having tons of time on my hands.

/e The few posts I've made are just to make sure this topic doesn't die. (90 day time limit)

Online Retailer Tips Potential Pricing for Intel's Haswell-E Processors

http://www.maximumpc.com/online_retailer_tips_potential_pricing_intels_haswell-e_processors_2014

Take these prices with a grain of salt

Quote
It's a bit early to go shopping for Intel's Haswell-E parts, though that doesn't mean you can't start planning your back-to-school build, especially if you can find the prices of upcoming parts. While Haswell-E CPUs are expected to debut in September, at least one online retailer in the U.S. has gone and posted pricing information for three upcoming SKUs, all of which are available to pre-order.

A shout out goes to CPU-World for discovering the pre-order parts on on Shopblt.com. At the time of this writing, here are the Haswell-E parts and prices the e-tailer is pushing:

    Intel Core i7 5960X Extreme Edition (8-core, 3.5GHz, 20MB cache): $1,107.83
    Intel Core i7 5930K (6-core, 3.7GHz, 15MB cache): $631.54
    Intel Core i7 5820K (6-core, 3.6GHz, 15MB cache): $425.92

Intel's first-ever 8-core desktop processor (5960X) is priced at $1,107.83 at Shopblt, which is $16 more than the 4960X in the same store. Expensive, sure, but not a bad price difference for two additional cores, more L2 cache, more memory bandwidth, and general architecture improvements.

Meanwhile, both six-core chips are priced somewhat competitively with the processors they're replacing -- the 5930K is $49 more than the 4930K, and the 5820K is $80 more than 4820K in the same store.

Dell Now Accepting BitCoin as Payment

http://www.maximumpc.com/dell_now_accepting_bitcoin_payment_2014

Dude, you’re using BitCoin to buy a Dell

Quote
If you’ve been hoarding your BitCoins for all this time then perhaps you now have a good reason to spend it all. Dell announced a partnership with Coinbase and is now accepting BitCoin as payment on its website.

The computer tech company joins an ever-increasing group of businesses that includes TigerDirect and Xidax, which accepts BitCoin. The reason for accepting BitCoin as currency, according to the site’s FAQ, states, “BitCoin is a new payment option intended to offer even more flexibility for customers, BitCoing payments can be made easily from anywhere in the world, and offer reduced payment processing costs.”

Those wishing to purchase products can add the item to their cart, fill out shipping details, choose BitCoin as the payment method and, upon submitting the order, will be directed to the Coinbase website. At Coinbase, there will be two payment options to choose from. The first option is to pay directly from a BitCoin wallet through a generated payment address or by scanning a QR code with a smartphone. The second option is to simply pay through a Coinbase account. Once decided, the user will be sent back to the Dell website for order confirmation.

The crypto-currency has had a bit of a tumultuous year.  At the beginning of the year it was valued at $800 per BitCoin but the filing for bankruptcy protection by MtGox had driven the value down to $528. The current value of the currency, according to Coinbase’s prices that is now shown in Google searches, is at $630.05 at the time of publication.

While I wouldn't recommend buy a DELL computer, if you happen to have a hoard of Bitcoins, now might be the time to invest in one of the higher priced DELL monitors. ^^
