That's just silly.

I've owned multiple reference cards over the years, Proper Fan curve > Static fan speed.

Vouch this.
My two first cards was reference, after that i started getting twin frozr and strix's. Loving the 0% fan upto 60c.
Reference cards got that high pinc noise.

True, but only if you don't mind the vid card heating your case.

/e To be honest, I think it's a lot easier on the fans bearings as well.

I'm lost now..

Why would a fan curve cause your gpu to heat up your case?

Well that's easy enough to answer. Right now my idle CPU temp is: 21C (package), and my idle GPU temp is 18C.

So even IF I had a no reference card (which leaks exhaust into the case), it wouldn't contribute anything to the CPU temp. I tried it both ways, with and w/o a fan curve.
CPU, north bridge and motherboard temps are all lower with the GPU fan at a fixed percentage.

If I had a non-reference card it would help even more.

Who the fuck cares about idle temps...

I did tests, Inside & outside of an industrial freezer.. My temps were all lower with the entire pc in the industrial freezer, Than outside it!

It scales to load temps as well. But I ain't running a benchmark to prove it. :/

/e It also helps a lot with CPU overclocking temps.

Just can't beat blower cards.

I've said for years, that on reference cards you need to run the fan at a fixed speed. 60-65% is what I use, and even more on the older cards.
It seems JaysTwoCents just said more or less, the same thing.

I use 70% myself.

And everyone else has told you for years, Why run a Fixed fan speed & Have an annoying blower noise 24/7... When you can just set a PROPER fan curves to kick in while gaming/etc.

I run fixed fan speed. Set it and forget it. I never hear the gpu fan over these noisy shark fans. Also my game or music is too loud to hear it. But seriously. Those shark fans are loud as fuck by comparison. I don't here the 970 blower until like 90%. LOL

I think it's easier on the motor too instead of reving up and down every two minutes.

I'm with Ghot. I prefer fixed fan speed. The only valid argument is that "it's noisy". But that really depends on the fan and card. This 970 I bought kicks ass. What what!! BEST BUY!! BB
