Why wouldn't he share his plan already?!
These books are sort of a parody of Dumas and his Three Musketeers, writing style. They are of a fictional place known as Dragera, and concern some of the people that live there. They have sorcery and they duel a lot with swords etc.
The funniest part for me is that they are unfailingly polite to each other...always...even when they are about to fight.
Like here's a chapter title in one of the books I just ordered:
"How the author, Forced Against His Will to Write of the Viscount's Travels, Attempts, for the Sake of the Reader, To Make Travel Interesting,"
/e ...or this for the very first chapter, titled:
"How a traveler wishing for name, met a coachman wishing for a drink, and a bargain was reached".

/ee If this style of narrating and character speech interests you...the I recommend that you start this series with the two books before the 1st book of the series I just ordered. Those being: the
Phoenix Guards and
Five Hundred Years After (both by Steven Brust). The ofc, you will be addicted and like myself, be forced to order the three following books, that I just ordered above.
The series consists of three books and has been completed.
The Phoenix Guards (1991)
Five Hundred Years After (1994)
The Viscount of Adrilankha, published in three volumes:
The Paths of the Dead (2002)
The Lord of Castle Black (2003)
Sethra Lavode (2004)
