Yes, the WD Velociraptor RMA Saga continues.

Just today I received my 6th Velociraptor...no Icepack

...for those that haven't been keeping up, April 12th I RMA'd a 250GB WD Velociraptor...they didn't have any 250GB versions still in stock.so they sent a 500GB, but it had no Icepack...and Velociraptors NEED Icepacks.
So I called them and they apologized..and sent me another...still no IcePack. I called again, told them they had now sent me TWO with no Icepacks...so they sent me two MORE 500GB...no Icepacks.

By this time we we're far into the Keystones Cops type humor of this situation, finally I got escalated to a supervisor, who sent me a 5th WD 500GB Velociraptor...and it HAD the Icepack. My joy knew no bounds.
Took out my Sata II 300GB Velociraptor, and puit in the shiny new 500GB Sata III with Icepack. Small problem...the HDD itself was DOA.

So I called back and explained the situation and they had me run some tests on the HDD and it was indeed dead as a doornail. So they said RMA it...which I did...today another (the 6th) 500GB Sata III Velociraptor arrived...guess what?

Yep, no Icepack lol

LOL free RAID setup there. Awesome. I almost feel tempted to buy one, but I'll be disappointed if it actually comes with an icepack xD

Well from Newegg they do come with Icepacks, and are supposed to, from WD as well. I just think they strill having some reorganization issues.

Ahh.

Aren't Icepacks like 10-20 bucks or something?

Without a fairly serious machine shop, they are not user serviceable.
They use a "press" to put the pins in, which is where we would probably use screws.

/e After the 2nd one they sent, I asked if they just couldn't send an Icepack...they told me same thing...and when the 5th on arrived with the Icepack, but DOA, I examined it closely...they weren't fibbing :)

/ee Even on the ones w/o Icepacks...the anti-static bag is thermally sealed. Sorta like a whole pile of these...just missed the "Icepack Attachment Stage" of the assembly line. Or, possibly..they make the drives...then seal them...then ship them somewhere else to have the Icepacks attached.

When I originally did the RMA I had sent back a WD 250GB VR and a WD 1TB Cav Black...the 1TB came back no problems...works fine. It's just this Velociraptor they seems to be having assembly line issues with.
For all I know...I may have been the first person to "just happen" to be the one.who alerted them to the problem. Otherwise I'd assume they would have it fixed by now.

Next up is getting an oil less air compressor...fortunately, my next door neighbor is a 7x year old machinist, so I'm gonna get him tomorrow or next day to help me pick one out.
