All Velociraptors come with an IcePack...aka heatsink...to keep these 10K rpm buggers cool. It's the large black metal thing that the HDD is mounted in.

1. Can't mount in HDD cage w/o it, and even if I got an 3.5 to 2.5 adapter...the Velociraptor would melt itself.

PART DEUX The ASUS Sabertooth 990FX SAGA

Just opened the RMA'd Sabertooth motherboard box...checked the serial number...and it is the exact board I sent to them for RMA...so ofc I called and asked...wtf?

They said we tested the board and found the CPU socket and DIMM slot 1 were bad and they said they replaced them...which I can tell they at least did some soldering on the board...however....

The reason I sent the board for RMA was that it ate two hard drives (see above HDD SAGA) and after about 4 months...started showing only half the RAM. Tested each stick in Dimm 2 and both worked fine.

Now those that have been paying attention will notice that I said the replaced the CPU socket and Dimm 1...unless you're running 4 sticks you're not supposed to even use Dimm 1, as per mobo manual.
But, in the past I have seen one bad board component...make it appear as if another board component is bad, when it's really not. So, I guess we'll know in a month or so, when I get some more DDR3 RAM if it actually works properly.

Kinda interesting is the fact that I have had to RMA more parts in the past 3-4 months...than I have in the last 12 years :)

If this keeps up, I'll soon have enough parts to build a supercomputer lol

/e In case any are wondering, I have a working 4170 CPU and a working 955 CPU as well, I have many spare vid cards and HDD's, so with just a decent case and PSU, I can build another Sabertooth 990FX build. Unfortunately, I can't test the RMA'd board till I order some more DDR3 RAM :/

PART TRES The return of the Hutch incident. Today has been a extremely busy day lol

I returned the Hutch about 1.5 weeks ago, and it's only going 3-400 miles...still no credit to my bank acct...so I called them today also. Via the tracking number, they informed me FedEx was having a delivery problem, and the returned Hutch only made it barely 75 miles in all that time. They didn't say what the problem was, but that they would look into it lol

you can if you shut down your current computer & test with the current kit you have -.-

If this keeps up, I'll soon have enough 500GB Velociraptors to start selling them..or make a really big NAS unit  lol

No you misunderstand, I have 2 working ASUS DDR2 mobos, and plenty of DDR2 RAM, but now, I have 2x ASUS Sabertooth 990FX mobos, but only one set of DDR3 RAM.

I don't want to sell my DDR2 RAM, hell I'm smack dab in the middle of comp illiterate central.....Just buy a few support parts like 3 cases, 2 PSU's, 3 DVD burners, 2 HDD's,  and I'll have plenty of parts to make 3 complete, not too much, out of date comps.  Which I can then sell off or keep one as a spare  etc.
I already have plenty of vid cards, CPU's and mobos (only my 2nd Sabertooth would need  DDR3 RAM).

you don't need hdd's now :p

and another set of DDR3 RAM...my other PSU is already in a complete OC'd build...just has crapola case with 80mm fans...too noisy even for me :)
So I gotta get another PSU first..to be able to use a stick of my current DDR3...to test the RMA's mobo....or take the only other working assembled comp down and use it's PSU...not a fun thing...NON modular.

This is only other working comp I have atm...and it's got my other PC Power & Cooling 750W PSU in it...crappy case, and EVGA 8600 GS (I think) :/

Just got email from Bush Furniture...the SAGA of the Hutch Return continues....apparently it got damaged in transit (FedEx), so Bush who sent me the return shipping label...is filing a claim against FedEx...said it should be done shortly...w/e that means lol

Dear ....

I contacted FedEX on your behalf, regarding the item returned on order xxxxxxxx.  Apparently your item was damaged in transit.  Therefore, it never reached the returns division at Bush Industries.

Corrective Action Taken:

1. I requested Bush Industries file the required FedEX claim

2. Once this claim completes, Bush will send me your required credit information and your eligible refund may be issued.

a.      I asked for a rush on this, so hopefully this will happen within a few business days.

/e Scary word bolded.

UPDATE: Refund is approved .....still took a 50% hit on the Hutch...but.even with the best mods possible, still would've been "tight" in the monitor area.
