Thaz how dey stay so cewl.
All Velociraptors come with an IcePack...aka heatsink...to keep these 10K rpm buggers cool. It's the large black metal thing that the HDD is mounted in.
1. Can't mount in HDD cage w/o it, and even if I got an 3.5 to 2.5 adapter...the Velociraptor would melt itself.
PART DEUX The ASUS Sabertooth 990FX SAGAJust opened the RMA'd Sabertooth motherboard box...checked the serial number...and it is the exact board I sent to them for RMA...so ofc I called and asked...wtf?
They said we tested the board and found the CPU socket and DIMM slot 1 were bad and they said they replaced them...which I can tell they at least did some soldering on the board...however....
The reason I sent the board for RMA was that it ate two hard drives (see above HDD SAGA) and after about 4 months...started showing only half the RAM. Tested each stick in Dimm 2 and both worked fine.
Now those that have been paying attention will notice that I said the replaced the CPU socket and Dimm 1...unless you're running 4 sticks you're not supposed to even use Dimm 1, as per mobo manual.
But, in the past I have seen one bad board component...make it appear as if another board component is bad, when it's really not. So, I guess we'll know in a month or so, when I get some more DDR3 RAM if it actually works properly.
Kinda interesting is the fact that I have had to RMA more parts in the past 3-4 months...than I have in the last 12 years

If this keeps up, I'll soon have enough parts to build a supercomputer lol
/e In case any are wondering, I have a working 4170 CPU and a working 955 CPU as well, I have many spare vid cards and HDD's, so with just a decent case and PSU, I can build another Sabertooth 990FX build. Unfortunately, I can't test the RMA'd board till I order some more DDR3 RAM :/
