I carried the Mossberg 500 in combat on my first tour. I can't say it's garbage thinking about on it. We beat the shit out of it and it still worked. Also being left handed and left eye dominate, the ambidextrous aspects were nice. I go hunting a lot though and I love my 870. Everything feels smooth and well made.

Though I think I have a problem with my extractor pin. :(

the m500 with drilled shroud and collapsable stock is pretty cool :)

In reality and today's modern world, ammo really means everything. 100+ years ago when there wasn't much choice, you got what you could afford. A $2 rifle went long way. Today you get to have fun like this.

Buddy of mine dropped my 870 from shoulder height and broke it. Wouldn't cock back and was completely frozen. Shop couldn't even fix it I had to send it back to Remington and they sent me a refurb in its place. Never had any other issues with it other than it seeming like a pretty damn weak ass gun that can't take a hit

That's the first I ever heard anything like that. I've never heard of a shotgun breaking because someone dropped it. Then again, I've never heard of anyone dropping a shotgun. Sounds like complacency and incompetence.

agreed. on the other hand, the 500's seem to be a little more durable.
