If the only thing you changed was the slot then it's the slot

Oh well the crashes started happening again.

Went into the bios. XMP was somehow disabled. Reenabled it and was sure it had fixed the problems. It worked for a few days but the crashes are still happening.

ONLY when playing games like csgo or PoE so far. Never while browsing.

how so? Is it futile to try and fix this old thing?

I see three possible problems...

1. Power supply is starting to go.
2. Vid card is starting to go. (OR... turn the fans up a bit on the vid card)
3. dirty vid card slot(s) (clean with teeny artists brush and 99% isopropyl alcohol ($4/quart)

I think the problem may be heat. I was playing some free game a while back on 780 Ti, and it was hitting around 80C in some of the more graphic locations.
Comp didn't freeze but the game sure started to drag almost to a halt.


The 4670K is still a good CPU, but the rest is getting a bit old. I would probably just relegate that computer to browsing, emails, Excel, Office... etc., and build a new comp.
In fact, I did just that with that $1200 stimulus check we got, here in the US.


/e It'd be worth it to keep the 4670K and upgrade the rest, but the prices for older stuff, like motherboards, went... UP.

I got my hands on a i7 4770k with asus maximus motherboard for free hopefully a swap will help me narrow in on the problem or hopefully fix it.

Nice. But I don't think the motherboard or the CPU are the problem.

Unfortunately neither do I.

I feel like its either PSU or GPU or RAM acting up.

I think you should set the fan curve on the GPU so it stays under 75C, no matter what you're doing on the comp. Under 70C would be even better.

Better CPU MB RAM and no crashes so far. PSU sounding like a jet engine though so will be replacing later today with Corsair RM 650w
