Yes the government can tell if you plug in any data device you plug into a computer. The real question is are they looking. On a classified system they get alerts and you get 20 yrs for espionage. On a FOUO they may not give a shit. I wouldnt press your luck. Put in a trouble ticket and ask questions you might be surprised on the answer.
