I have to do upgrades 1/2 at a time. This summer vid card... next summer CPU, mobo, and RAM.
Kinda wanna see Intel's response to Ryzen.

But why tho if u don't even game?

Compared to the 780 Ti, the 2060 super is a big leap. Then next summer, I'll grab the other half of the upgrade.
The only question was, would the 2060 function on that old of a motherboard. EVGA tech support had said they weren't positive, so I posted here and on the Geforce forums.
Apparently the 2000 series will work fine on my motherboard.

You're trying to shove a 14 gigabits per second card into an 8 gigabits per second slot.
I think thats what they meant by control issues.

Once it hits that 8gbps wall it might cause some problems doing any kind of graphic workload.

And then you have the issue of power draw on the slot itself.
Cause I remember when the RX-4XX cards were first released they were drawing Gen 2 levels of power from PCIe 3 slots and it was causing problems.
Those RTX 2000 cards are designed for Gen 3.

Maybe.

Well, sooner or later this card will die. It's been running 24/7 for over 6 years.
Since I can only afford a 1/2 upgrade at a time, I have to plan ahead.

The other concerns I have are the monitor and the TV. TV is like 10-11 years old and the monitor is 7 years old. Lastly, the microwave is approx. 20 years old. I guess I could get a 2nd monitor first, then the vid card, then the CPU, mobo, RAM etc.
That might be a smarter option. If this monitor dies, I'll be stuck with a CRT monitor (21"). That might be a better idea... getting the monitor.

pretty sure turing gpus requires the newest version of windows 10.. tried to run turing card on windows 10 enterprise version and that dident even work, so i doubt it works with windows 7

Intel won't have a good response to amd's current chips, but wait as yupitsmeh said if you think otherwise.
20 series wasn't as huge of a leap as 10 series was. I don't expect much for 30 series either tbh.

i'm betting this jump will be like pascal or better considering the node shrink and arch improvements
funny thing is people complained about 2xxx series when in fact that was typical past gen jump but rt added
and 2080 has way less cuda then 1080ti and still performs better
so if they get same cuda improvement with halved node, if we get same die sizes, i'm expecting almost double performance on die sizes not tier/hierachy of the series

Considering you have like no money just wait till it dies and buy a used card (or new one) since others have pointed out you have no NEED for it.
This logic should apply to all the other things your mentioning as well, alas you've never been logical about it though. I will say I'm curious to where
this moneys coming from now though cause I'm familiar with your excuses from before. Though I guess if you indeed quit smoking there would be
a small amount to work with.

This is indeed what they are referring to.

imho

ssd

then cpu/mobo/ram, ryzen 4k series will crack this yr too which could force intel into chiplet design on mainstream faster

then vid card if he has to part it together over next couple yrs

@ghot what is budget for each yr you thinking?

He needs none of it though, smart move would just be to save money for when its needed then act.
