Interesting! Mechanical drives better for backups: I had no idea about that. :O
The files aren't SUPER SUPER important, but I would be quite sweaty if I lost them ^^ Also I might need access to the files while being offline, so a cloud drive wouldn't be very helpful for me.
I will definitely look into write-cycles, this is something I haven't even thought about!
Thanks a lot for your post Derek, helpful and informative :)

Your just adding data here and there not doing a bit for bit back up or are you?
by bit for bit I mean literally a rewrite of the entire drive every week.

Well, I was supposed to add data manually. But Now that rewriting the entire drive every week was mentioned I got a bit interested in that solution

Well if your opting for the rewrite then yes maybe a enterprise class platter drive.
Though get ready for a several hour task once a week.
You advised me it was little data bit by bit so ssd is fine in that case.

Well yea, that doesn't really sound too good (several hours)... I guess I'll just do the backups manually!

So, to make things clear: I would like to move files between my regular drive and my backup drive as Quickly and stable as possible. It would definitely take me time to fill up the backup drive, so the write-cycles could almost be excluded from this equation.

Which leads us to the question.

SSD + SSD or SSD + HDD?

And which brands would be preferable? So far almost no brand name has been mentioned twice... :)

Samsung seem to be the top choice in here!

I think this thread is quite wrapped up, if nobody has anything to add I will probably go for a Samsung as main and Crucial as backup.

Thanks for all the responses, I know google is out there, but asking is so much easier. And also a bit more social :)

What are you actually doing? Storing personal files, work backup, etc? That helps a lot.

A bit of personal files, but mainly work stuff! Very sensitive information as-well. Database & website backups and stuff like that.
