amp won't make sound better, it powers higher end speakers.
a dac can help sound though and is commonly packaged with amps in a combo.

The odd thing is no ones asked your budget yet your getting so many suggestions.
Though do get a mic and headphones vs a headset. A snowball mic is plenty for most users.

money isnt really an issue
would hopefully be able to stay below 500$

as of now im thinking of getting
Philips X2/27 Fidelio with a V-MODA BoomPro Microphone
or
headphones + amp/doc + mic if it will produce a overall better experience
example
DT 990 PRO + Creative Sound Blaster X7 + snowball/yeti mic

Well I have no regrets with my o2 amp/dac and hd6xx's.
The wait was a bit ridiculous but I managed both for 350 USD then my yeti was around 100.

These are the two people here I usually take serious with audio advice.
If anything I'd say reach out to them but do know exactly what your after (refer to post #5).

if strictly for gaming only try the x2 with onboard

what motherboard are you using?>

only reason to get an amp is to power power hungry headphones pretty much
only reason to get a dac is to get better accuracy from conversion
from gaming stand point

but if we talk about virtual surround then some devices do it differently

I use x7 with hd600, or he400 or hd558 or dt770 few other headphones and dac and/or amps
it can become a money pit

Saw you mentioned the vmoda boompro. I have one, and I wish I had gotten the antlion modmic instead. I has a tendency to not stay in place, it just kinda swings around in the headphones so the input volume level is always changing.

Don't use a yeti for gaming unless u want the whole discord to hear a fucking fart brewing in ur lower intestines before it even comes out. Get a headset. I have the Sennheiser game zeros. GG headset.

For 500$ you should be able to get a used HD800. If you need more headroom JDS Labs has just launched the Atom amplifier which swipes the floor specwise.
