8700k upgrade has less cores... lol.
Are they just adding a 6th tier to the core linup on the same socket now? (celeron, pentium, i3, i5, i7, i9)

8700k's upgrade aka 9700k has two additional cores. Not sure how 2 cores vs 16threads will look like performance wise.
Yes they are just adding another tier in top end.

I also fucked up. It's 2 cores vs 4 threads.
Since 8700k has 6c/12t and the 9700k has 8c/8t. It's going be two extra cores, but four less threads.
