this guy is right, because there is gold and other stuff on them.. here is an LTT video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toijA2e1sLw

and when looking at the picture, this mobo seems to have an actual GOLD heatsink on it, so yea.. no wonder

They don't use gold on heatsinks..

Video is a really nice view of an operation but most operations in china are fucking fithly as fuck.
No one gives two fucks about the environment in china. They claim to do so with that green wall
bullshit but as someone thats worked in a scrap yard I assure you they don't care at all.
Money talks.

Theres much more extracted then what that video would leave you to believe as well.
It's not just gold/silver/copper.

many do it for hobby
was more common decades ago

This is true but its costly and dangerous.
The fumes and chemicals are super nasty.
Getting harder to acquire the chemicals also (least here anyways).

I buy old hardware all the time. Sometimes due to old software that was never replaced or updated and can't be emulated, other times for nostalgia or to see what old tech is still capable of today.

Gaming on a machine that is over a decade old but only cost a few bucks is nice too.

I just recycled an old desktop that had an AGP card in it (P3 CPU, can't remember if it was a Slot 1 or FCPGA chip).
