How many sticks of DIMM do you want to be used in tandem. Not so much how much ram do you want to have overall and more like how big of a bandwidth do you need.

A 2 lane highway with a speed of 50 mph vs. a 4 lane highway with a speed of 50 mph.

gaming it doesn't really matter, only in fringe cases like fallout 4 will you encounter ram battlenecks and even then i only saw it being a problem on ddr3
just go dual channel if that money saved can be better spent anywhere else
