https://www.walmart.com/ip/ARRIS-SURFboard-SBG6700AC-DOCSIS-3-0-Wireless-Cable-Modem-AC1600-Wi-Fi-Router/46099796 Can find it cheaper on Amazon, but it's really nice for the price, and you won't have to upgrade again for a long time. It uses Dual-Band (good for multi device usuage such as cell phones and gaming consoles at the same time, which run off different frenquencies), also using AC instead of the older B/G/N.

cant use modem as I said above. wont work

If they don't use a modem (and there are providers that don't, like fiber, LRE, etc), then just get a router. That TP-Link should be fine.

ok thanks. just bought that tp link router then

Your ISP doesn't give you a modem? Mine always has (and I get higher speeds than I pay for, so I can't complain)
As for router, any ~$100 wireless AC dual band will do just fine. Unless you have fiberoptic internet, the speed won't change as you go up, just the range (which isn't usually a problem if you have a half decent wireless card).
