No. You transfer all the movies at one time. Or at least enough to fill the SSD. Do the xfer while you're sleeping or at work...w/e.

but then its the same as if i had an external hdd? maybe slightly faster? but if transferring from hdd to ssd or transferring hdd to hdd. i feel like both would be limited by the initial hdd being used. so the ssd wont make much of a difference? or am i not seeing something correctly?

You only transfer the movies ONCE bro. Then, forever more, they are on your ext. drive.

How much movie data do you have? 1TB, 2TB?

3tb lol but i only transfer the 4k hdr movies to be views from usb. but for various things prob cant mention here, i need them to be opened in a certain program to maintain decent ratios. so its easiest to keep them on main internal hdd and transfer them to usb as needed. thats why i just want to connect the hdd directly to the tv.

I don't think it works that way.
I think w/e storage device you choose, it must NOT be an internal part of the PC.

The USB ports on a computer are NOT hooked directly to the hard drives.

/e I wish I could tell you for sure that it won't work. But all I can say is that everyone would be doing it these days...IF it worked. TVs are that good nowadays.
