Here's what I put together.

Get this motherboard bundle at Microcenter (they knock $30 off CPU/MB bundles for in-store purchases): http://www.microcenter.com/product/5000235/AMD_Ryzen_5_1600X,_ASUS_Prime_B350M-E_CPU-Motherboard_Bundle

Get the rest of the stuff here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NkpHvV

There are mail-in rebates on a couple of the items, but after rebate, should come in under $800.

If you want a optical drive, you can add any cheap one you want. If you need a copy of Windows, you can get inexpensive product keys on /r/microsoftsoftwareswap. Just download the USB installation media from Microsoft.

If anyone else wants to tweak this, go ahead (I haven't put together a build in a little while...and holy fuck, have RAM prices gone up).

Newegg has a series of videos on YouTube that show how easy it is to put a PC together. First one is here, the rest are linked in series in the vids themselves.

Edit: You can also do a price comparison in store at Microcenter to see if they have comparable stuff for similar or cheaper. PCPartPicker doesn't list in-store prices.

Feel free to get other people's opinions here. I just posted an example of a system you could put together which would beat an off-the-shelf system from Staples/Best Buy in performance for the same price or less.

As for the person you quoted, he's a child who raged over his own 'help' thread a week or so ago, and hasn't been able to get off my dick since.
