Theres not a whole lot different with the q k models. Ill post more ingo when i get home in a couple hours

ok thanks :] ive seen some people say there is not much difference like you said, but others said stuff like bass or treble was slightly better or worse and i think one is more bulky?

also the quincy jones version used to go on sale for around $200. but i dont think they can be found for under $300 brand new now. so unless theres a big difference, not sure those are worth it?

all of them will require power to fully utilize them correctly

what are you going to use?

i havnt looked into amps yet. but yea i do know regardless of whichever i get i will need an amp. unless you have a suggestion? my understanding of amps is that the different brands make a very slight difference. most thing that matters is that they can power the headphones well enough?

Considering open back headphones again now. i see the massdrop sennhesier 6xx is on sale for $200 again now.

but the AKG quincy jones Q701 are $350... and the AKG K701 and AKG K702 are around $215 each.

i forgot if the quincy jones are any different, or whats the difference between the K701 and K702? both seem open backed and very similar to the Q701...

I know some of you have had both, whats the differences? which is better for basic music listening, not really gaming

Supposedly they sound the same. The difference between K701 and K702 is the detachable cable. (I highly recommend always going with a detachable cable option in case you ever have to replace a cable.) I think the Q701 is just a special edition with nothing different besides the detachable cable and color schemes.

I've also heard the Q701 has slightly more base than the K series but I'm thinking K702 = Q701. They have the same drivers, frequency response, sound pressure levels, and most likely the same sound stage.

They are all reference headphones. AKG now makes even more expensive versions of them in the form of the K712. The K712 is the basey-er version of the series. I'd love some K12s.

Then there's the K812 which is the allstar reference headphone for AKG at the modest sum of 1100 dollars.

Aside from build quality and special features, the most noticeable thing IMO will be slight EQ differences (at least that's the case with car audio amps). You can definitely get amps that can be driven off of just the case power, but amps will make any real headphones sound better, with the difference generally being more noticeable as you go up in headphone quality.

ok cool thanks. so yea detachable cable for sure the best option in case it brakes or if i want a different length or straight vs coiled etc...

im assuming that those small differences are very very hard to notice by human hearing. it looks like yea the k712 has more bass. k712 cost around $70 more. might be worth it for the extra bass.

but the k712 orange and black looks ugly lol. id rather it be a solid black color without the orange bands

Thanks everyone for input. assuming theres nothing else to debate about the different AKG versions, what about comparing the AKG headphones to the Sennhesier 6xx on massdrop? its $200. So all around the same price point and all will require a similar amplifier. both are open headphones. and only want for music listening to many genres.

I personally prefer the sound and comfort of HD6XX over those AKG.
