You wanna just +1...maybe general chat.

As for laptops vs. desktops...

A laptop fits in a little case...it has much more stringent reqs.

Think of any laptop that doesn't cost $2500 as "already tuned up, as good as they could get it".

Every CPU is slightly different, They're mass produced & Companies don't have time to individually tune them. They use algorithms to help adjust voltage as the CPU needs it, But those are rarely completely accurate.

not sure what got into ghots pants, there's nothing wrong with undervolting a laptop cpu. They don't go out of their way to calibrate the voltage to the absolute minimum stable amount on each chip, that's not how it works. Due to binning you could get it even lower, and there's no risk of damaging the chip, just of getting lower temperatures. Keep in mind that if you do it through the bios you can end up too low to even boot though and you'll have to clear the cmos to get back in and that can be a pain you'll probably have to open the laptop up and find the jumper pins.

the 7700hq is a locked chip anyway so i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even let you screw with the voltages.

What you can do is go to power-saving settings and change the max cpu state in your power plan to <100%, this will lower your temps, power consumption, and yes voltage.
(or however min/max cpu states are changed in windows 10)

If you lower it to say 5% you won't actually go down to 5% though, it'll just be at the speedstep idle state at all times (probably 800mz)

Undervolted my 6700hq in Asus laptop -120mv. Felt like 5c and fans got quieter under regular usage.

Gonna do it on my Dell xps 7700hq as well.

When you start messing around in the BIOS of a laptop...99% of the time all you do is make it unstable.

Is that clear enough for you?

/e You want to mess around in the BIOS, do it on a desktop.

you're both assuming and making dumb statements on no basis with no proof, still

my laptop doesn't even have a standardized bios, using xtu.

What stabile underclock have you reached so far?
And are you using Intel extreme tuning utility as well?

edit: Different from chip to chip. It just crashes and it resets to default if it's unstable.

Did you monitor the temperature change and fan speed?
