You mean droping the actual timings like 9-9-9-9-24 lower?
so like 10-10-10-10-10-24 hmm.

worth a shot I guess, never did try that.

Sometimes that will work, but it lowers the effective speed of the RAM.

I have mixed and matched sets of RAM, successfully before, but it's not easy. You need identical sets of RAM, and the version numbers (printed on the circuit board), have to be the same as well.
Even then, there is the possibility of failure. Not because it shouldn't work, but simply because it wasn't "tested" as a set, before it left the manufacturer.

I haven't RMA'd many RAM sticks, but every time they wanted the whole set.

Lol then how do they match sets?
What tests are done?
Provide some links of their testing for matching sets

I could pull my crucial ballistix out and show non matched serials after rma

Call em and ask em. You saying the whole internet knows that RAM manufacturers test RAM kits for compatibility, and you don't? <---- Rhetorical question.

Dude, get real, you wanna argue about dumb stuff, go to a bar, like the rest of the world.
