Just saw this topic, know I'm late. You can build, even with goggles cheap. It only gets expensive when you add in the 'drone' part. GPS and a flight controller will eat up price, but flying a quad with fpv doesn't require those.

Yeah, I built one and never even flew it. It's just sitting here along with the batteries controller etc.

If you're not interested in anything automated go with the DIY goggles from hobbyking. They're really cheap and work just fine. The 5.8 doesn't penetrate well, signal may get fuzzy behind trees and such, and you'll definitely lose it behind structures. But if you're just getting into fpv you can't beat this price.

yea thats my main worry with the goggles, how well do they hold the signal and how good is the image quality.

ive heard alot about fatshark. they are expensive and seem lightweight. but id assume their image quality is top notch for what u can get at that price?
