It'll try at least.

ok ill give it a go - i just dont want it to fail and then those programs become unrecoverable by any other means.

Is that a possibility at all? Ill just buy spinrite if thats the case

/e From what I've read, most folks recover the green 1st, then TRY to recover the red.

Interesting, do they continue to use recuva or move on to something with a little more oomph like spinrite?

Dunno. They have forums, but finding the right question...is kinda hard.

Im using recuva atm

finished the scan and the positives is that it found all 906gb without any hassles or deep scan required

however, only some of the programs are green lighted (excellent / good condition) .... will the program be able to restore the red lighted "unrecoverable" programs ?

wearing the drive down?

red lighted stuff is corrupted and tbh you should re-install all software.
its only wise to take off the smaller more important things like documents/photo's/music etc.

If the drive is dying which it may be doing the worst thing you can do is use it.
so all these scans are wearing it down more and more.

/edit fixed typo's

/edit
what separates spinrite from other applications is how aggressive it is at trying to recover those corrupted parts.
so long as teh media itself is not beyond recovery due to physical flaws spinrite has a really high chance of pulling off data.

one thing you can also do if its a platter drive is double ziplock it and place it in the freezer before doing the recovery process.
as the platters heat the expand and make data recovery much harder./

As ART has said...Spinrite is by far the best. Well, anything from grc.com is gonna be the best. :)

/e The best solution for the future...is keep backups. Then you won't need to worry about recovery software. ^^
