Reset the bios. 1.7 is enough to burn it out or the chip is bad

Hum i cleared cmos and loaded default settings on bios :(

Might be the motherboard. Might be the CPU, but they hardly ever go bad. :/

I can remember that i had same issues with the e6750 sometimes but i had fixed it with air blowing and thermal paste reapplying, not that kind of thing.

The thermal paste may be the issue, i'm still full of myself that this isn't the thing here since its a thing i have dne too many times
But i'll go buy some these days and redo the process.
I never tried to OC and also i've been very carefull when i changed the cpu(which changed for the first time on the motherboard)
Also i really got no clue about bios revisions, i can't find anything in asus page also :(
Only thing i know is that my bios version is v02.58

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5K/

Under Support > Drivers and Tools ....you will find the BIOS files.

/e Two things...

1. The BIOS versions are whole numbers like 1201 for example.
2. There are 2-3 different P5K motherboards.

ASUS P5K
ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP
ASUS P5K-E
ASUS P5K SE

The CPU Q-fan control should be Disabled...that means the CPU fan runs at 100%.

The CPU frequency for the q6600 should be 2.4Ghz. But Intel might be using a multiplier that I can't see on that screen. You'll need an Intel guy for that. Like Z97. :)

/e Last time I ran an Intel CPU was like the year 2000. I think the fastest they had then was 450Mhz. :)

/ee You can download the P5K motherboard users manual at the ASUS website...it will help to explain the BIOS settings for the CPU frequency and CPU Ratio.

the pc is dialing back the speed cause of heat....
dont need to own a intel chip to know this ... all cpus do it.

Didn't read all posts but my bet is on the heat sink being not properly seated. Can't see any other reason for those temps at idle unless you live in an oven.

I removed the heatsink to re clean it reapply thermal and put it back.
I'm gonna feedback about that when its done.

does it need more thermal than that?
