a 144hz at 75 fps is gonna be smoother and nicer than a 60hz at 75fps any day. Not getting a 144hz just cause you cant run every game at a full 144fps doesnt make sense

maybe stuttering is more accurate terminology
when the gpu can't process/fulfill the panel's refresh rate

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense cause you can't go full 144hz but you want it to be close and consistent especially without adaptive sync

I'm saying he can go either way and won't be fully utilizing either unless he upgrades his gpu but if he wants higher res then go with 1440
960 will be fine until he wants to snag a used 970/980 or amd equivalent
to satisfy monitor specs

so you won't get the most out of it but if your next upgrade is a gpu then you'll better utilize it

similar deal with 1080/144 but it's the refresh rate that'll struggle
w'o gsync you might experience some tearing cause 960 won't put out 144hz on 1080 unless you turn down detail settings, even then I'm not sure

basically you're looking at a monitor you may wanna keep for a bit
then upgrade gpu to better utilize said monitor if you desire
instead of short-changing yourself on monitor now only to get a better one later that'll require more gpu power anyways

if you're more concerned with resolution then I'd get 27" 1440/60 now
and could snag somethin like used 970 for around 125 bones or so
somethin like that

of course, idk what you're using it for either so :unsure:

I'm thinking about getting another gtx 960 so that should be fine with a 1440/60 monitor.

Not worth it.

Just get a used 980 or buy a 1060/1070
