2016 dell xps 15 here. These laptops look nice, feel nice, but no. They're not nice. They're plagued with bugs and issues. Last dell I'll ever purchase.

Any longterm use with the laptop will show issues with the track pad, slow performance after resuming from sleep, slow sleep resume, graphic issues, etc. Google dell xps 15 9550 issues to see how bad it is. Most of the issues stem from Dell.

Beyond disappointed with how much I spent on this system.

Sleep issues is resolved by drivers.

Graphics issues is traced to nvidia, and resolved by using correct drivers

Windows just needs to do a few more things to really overcome Apple:

- stop being turds and not spy on everyone's activity with Cortana/OS (anti-piracy spying built in)
- make the OS more user-friendly out of the box... takes a couple hours to remove all the clunky start menu stuff that is in your face, and I had to go through 3 different "don't use Microsoft Edge / explorer" switches... used to be just one, but they build in extra Microsoft auto-Bing stuff into their OS
- keep refining their trackpad gestures / make sure manufacturers keep pumping out quality trackpads on laptops
- keep overall refining through simplification, without reducing the OS to anything less than what you could do in Windows 7

Pretty impressed with Windows 10. The hardware manufacturers are catching up too it's nice.

The thing with win10 is that they show u all features directly when u installed it, and then its up to you which ones u wanna keep, and usually we try to keep it as much as win7 as possible, which basically is non of them.

But believe me, many of the features i, or u disable is widely used among the lower technical people that finds it neato.

Theres a lot of changes to do on a mac if ure techy about them too

I agree. I've purchased four laptops around the ~$400 range over the past two months, threw in an ssd and upgraded the ram. Purchased one for girlfriend (school), one for grandparents (email, web, skyping family), and two for coworkers that are going back to school. It's a pain going through and deleting all the unnecessary junk.

I'll say this regarding Dell XPS: too many issues from the start. It is a sleak and good looking machine. It does have nice components. The 4K version I have is beautiful. I just don't like how many issues I had to work through. The battery life wasn't anywhere close to what was advertised. Now, after upgrades/tweaks, I'm getting decent battery life. I just installed a 1TB 960 evo today. Speeds are much better than the 951 m.2 that was in there originally. Now, I just need to figure out what to do with this extra m.2.

You could do worse than the XPS but still. I wouldn't have minded it if I had been in the mood to work through these issues. Sometimes it's fun. Especially if I'm in the mood to learn. I guess I just wasn't in the spirit this time around.

edit: just in case you haven't stumbled upon this thread yet.

It helped me through quite a few issues.
