Most people still run 100mbit though :P

They need to burn their network down.

My bro has that TP-Link adapter you linked and he pretty much gets our full rated speed of ~250 mbps through it. you gotta be using the 5Ghz band to get those speeds

Something I've never known is any of this manually configured?

USB devices are limited to the transfer speed of the USB bus. If you are using 2.0 you will get slower speeds than PCIE and slower speeds than a 3.0 compliant device.

Most peoples net/network are slower than USB 2.0 can handle though.

pretty much this. I'm actually just looking for something that will get me pretty good speeds in normal conditions and conditions that are a little bit less than ideal.
On my phones wifi for example, roughly where my pc is, I get way faster speeds (more than triple any of my max's on usb/pcie). I would just like a device that gets roughly as good as my phone and thus far, none of the devices posted above, do (albeit the pcie one is close, its about 30-40% different)

edit: none of this is for my personal use btw, I'm just using my data/current devices for testing purposes and to help explain my points :)
