Well I'm confused now and starting to get reluctant to buy anything at all... maybe I should invest in ETFs instead

AMD would have been a good one 6-7 months ago when shares dropped to 1.80/per

Now up to 8.71

277 shares now times 8.71 good 2400 dollars. Funny story I had this same conversation with my best friend.. oh well

NVDA
AMD
MSFT

If you purchased any of these just a few years ago you'd have a huge return by now.

The problem is all their revenue numbers are private

Like others have said, $500 isn't much to invest with.

If you want to really get the most out of your $500 and really gamble, go for pennystocks. The cannabis sector made a huge run pre election, and then tanked following the election even though many states legalized recreational. Huge returns can be made here if you follow upswings, but don't have much confidence in any of the companies. Be prepared for massive gains, or to lose it all.

Also, checkout biotech and pharmaceutical startups.

A more safe option would be to dump the $500 into a Roth IRA and contribute a portion of your paycheck ($30 a week for instance) into it. The maximum you can contribute per year is $5500 and this is more like a retirement fund and not something to touch until around 60 (forget the exact age).

Like StupidKid said. I don't really see the point in investing right now if you haven't already started a Roth IRA fund. You're not going to get rich overnight. You need to put your eggs in several baskets.

While we are on this topic is there a database or a way to check stock exchanges in real time?

I'd love to start graphing them and working with the collected data.

Now a days the entire stock market is ran by bots using private fiberoptic lines so they can have super low latency to buy/sell. I'd be interested in seeing what kind of data is needed to make such software.

Check Nasdaq. They might something like that.
