But yeah, that technology is pretty much possible now.

The definition of K related to film era and being divisible by 1024. 2K therefor was Y x 2048. Since film is long gone, 1920x1080 has replaced the format but calling it 2K can indeed be very confusing if you're dealing with video industry people.

But yes, I can relate to 'it should have been' since the 4K resolution is so widely being called 4K.
