I could only see viewing angle as a thing if you Use it in bedroom for movies and can't turn it

It's not a deal breaker. But if he's just getting 60hz, Why not get IPS?

144hz and fast response time 250$, overall the best if you play FPS and/or competitive gaming. (Personally i prefer it)

60hz IPS 160$, Better coloring and veiwing angle. Its cheaper and better if you do a bit of editing.

Gsync is REALLY not needed. And you will PAY for it, the cheapest monitor with G-Sync is 380$

Vsync enabled at 144hz with leave you with pretty much no screen tearing.

I believe the Asus has more vibrant colors. The benq has a coloring is a bit washed. So I think the asus is a bit better for overall usage.
The benq wins in features and overall for competitive gamers.

Currently the Asus is 20$ cheaper. Which is closer to the budget as well.

Do you have a custom ICC profile added? There's a thread on reddit that helps you to fix colors, and I haven't seen a TN panel anywhere near the VG248QE's price that look as nice once you add a color profile and tweak the settings a bit.

Cant really use someone elses calibration settings though.

Each monitor is going to be different.

Yes you can. lol

Even if the color profile doesn't get you all the way there, you can definitely use those and tweak it manually from there. It works fine and took my monitor (and many people that posted in that thread) from really flat and washed out colors to a beautiful display. Witcher 3 looks gorgeous, even compared to my buddy's IPS monitor. It's not as good (obviously), but it's really not bad by any means.
