when i click check for updates (on windows) it just sits there for ever..... says according to that tho last time updated was 8/10/2016.

Try this

Windows Defender has to be enabled in Services, as well. Quite a few of the better AV's will disable Windows Defender in Services, when they are installed, to avoid conflicts.

In Win 7 you can open the Services Window, by typing: Services.msc in the START > Search box.

You may not be able to enable Windows defender if there are Webroot leftovers.

Also... Webroot is far better than Windows Defender.

awesome very helpful thank u bro got it to work =D didnt really need a new comp but now i have one haha.
missing a couple things like hdmi slot and only 4gb ram and needs new video card but should be a decent machine for me to play around with.

it had windows defender on delayed start i had to put it on automatic and restart comp it finally worked and updated.
however it still says there is no antivirus software but got rid of the other security warning like you are not protected or whatever but the other security warning remains. i thought windows def was AV thats how it works on my 2 windows 10 laptops. it still has malwarebytes maybe i can just have it use that? not really a big deal tho i dont think i will be using it hardly at all lol..
