But that's just for the sd card reader? If so I don't think I've ever used it in the 6 years of having this laptop

Yea, I'll download it when I get home, heading to class now :D

E/ should I make a back up and/or restore point now¿ Since the laptop is now running well with a clean install?

Or should I just do a clean install every time something fishy goes on

Make a backup. Make a Rescue Disc, too.
