11megabytes, or rather 12megabytes, is 100megabits.

You're very unspecific when trying to receive technical answers.

Also be aware to reach 100mbit on DSL you need two DSL lines which are bonded. Each line can only yield 50mbits of bandwidth. Further more you can only be less than 100 meters (or was it feet?) from the local phone box or else you start to see massive degrade in signal and internet speeds. At those distances the modem negotiates a lower bandwidth protocol to get a stable connection reducing speeds.

Also the wiring in your house will also effect speeds. Trying to get 100mbit over any distance of cat3 phone cable is difficult. Normally installers wire in around 15 feet from the TNI to the modem. You then have to run cat5 to your networking hardware.

i thought dsl speeds were also dependent upon distance from the actual center giving out the internet? not just the phone box?

Now a days they run fiber to the boxes or use other tech to go from the box to the telco center.

Although I guess if this guy lives in the ghetto it might be like that.

Also DSL needs time to ramp up in speed. It normally doesn't start off at maximum speed like cable when downloading.

Also bad routes to servers can cause loss of bandwidth. Try other speed test servers.

so u mean if they recently ran new dsl lines in his area.

i wasnt aware companies actually were updating the dsl tech? and running new lines? lol, why waste time and money to run dsl cables in neighborhoods when theres better types of internet available for pretty much the same cost per month as dsl?

from what ive seen, dsl internet at 6mbps or high speed internets at 50 mbps are often around the same price. sometimes dsl is more expensive?

It's called FTTB (fiber to the box) where they pull fiber to the box and then use DSL tech to provide internet to the community over phone lines. This is how they are offering 100mbit services over dsl.

So no they are not running "new dsl cables".

and here i thought dsl was a sort of dead tech

tried to run cat 5 wire that came with the modem, no luck.

im 350 feet from the main office of windstream.

they already bonded and ran an extra wire.

the phone box and mdoem are practicaly right now to eachother.



it caps at this speed on every device and pc we have hard wired.



they also said we were pulling 75 at the office.
