This is what I was looking for. Any hints where I can source this info for future reference, or is this just a comparison of the same benchmark?

Primarily will be playing Star Citizen, if it ever releases. Nothing else I've seen so far moves me, at least nothing that will require anything more than either choice will handle.

*Edit

You posted as I did. Only interested in the 9 series since it's a trusted source, cards used with no OC under normal circumstances. If not for the offer I would go 1070 for sure, but good deal sways the cheapskate.

I've had sli 980s.. i dont need a source lol.

Yeah, I guess I was hoping for some actual numbers, not you telling me that your nikes are more comfortable than the reeboks.

I would get the 1070.

Especially since anything below 10 series has issues with some Dx12 features. It has more vram too for 1440p & Down the road you can upgrade with another 1070, Instead of having to completely replace the 980's.

2x 980's roughly equal a 1080 in performance

1070 is a bit slower than a 1080

therefor, 2x 980's is slightly faster than a single 1070

However, Not ALL games support SLI or have good scaling with multiple cards.

I had sli 980's before upgrading to 1080's

this shows 980sli 12% over 970sli https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980_SLI/20.html

this shows 970sli 5%-10% behind 1070 https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1070_Gaming_X/24.html

using those numbers you could determine a rough estimate

Here, it took a while but I finally found a chart with 980 SLI (far right) and GTX 1070 (far left).

/e Looks like Z97 was right. Guess owning something has it's merits.

/ee Found the website and the rest of the review as well...

Thank you Ghot, exactly what I wanted. In reference, SC is being optimized for DX12 last I heard, so in fact the benchmarks for DX12 are opposite of what was said for the 980's.

I'll go with the 1070.

Probably the wise choice, as others have said. Also, you'll be getting a NEW card with the full warranty.

Add to that, less heat and power requirements. ;)

Not that hard.

The 980s in sli i had scored roughly a 5500 OC'd

Most 1070s im seeing with relative OC are hitting 4500-4700 in valley.

But that's fine to want a source.
