If it's only temporary, I would just get a 50 foot Ethernet cable. Or w/e length you need. Run it across the floor.
i own a 50 ft ethernet cable. but the distance from router is around 75 ft. and well there someone living in house who is over 90 years old with a walker.
i can just let the cable lay along the floor. and it would be a very tough job to run a cord from the modem along the walls/ceiling to the room im in.
it just wont work. not worth the effort for just a few weeks

Google the wifi windsurfer. It is a cut and paste parabola which can help add a few dbi of gain to your omni directional stock antennas. It may or may not help a bit.
edit::
Here found it for you:
http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/Also make sure your antennas are up and down, not sideways. Horizontal polarization can decrease performance if all your other devices are not horizontally polarized.
sorry i didnt mention in this thread.
but i had to return the arris surfboard modem and the other router i purchased. because this house needs home phone. and with comcast you need to use their modems that have stupid telephone support. so basically im just using their gateway. but i did disable their router portion and am using my very old linksys e1000 router bridged.
but this router has no external antenna
