noob whacker says it does.

posts "proof" as in: double the voltage on an i7-920 and try for 3.8-4 ghz (doubling voltage is not even required for that clock) and you will shorten your cpus life....

NO FUCKING shit you are force feeding voltage, christ he is retarded.

Meanwhile I have an i5-2500k bought in aug 2011 and it has been at 4.3-4.5 since and it is no where near "death".

and @ op.... don't pm me I have no intention of helping someone who asks for help, gets told solid advice (ie 8320....) and says "LOL NOPE"

Yeah that's sad.

I can see that a sustained overclock for a long period of time and not being quite able to reach that clock speed again because of the silicon.

I'm sure it would have to be a long time before any degradation to the cpu is to be had.

The amount of superstitions that circulate about computer around here is mind blowing sometimes.

Intel processors are quite expensive vs performance, they are good for rendering photos and movies.

AMD processors are good for gaming.

I suggest to you the AMD processor.

Editing posts is super cool kid.

Post proof that does not include force feeding ridiculous voltage levels.

Hardware wears out overtime, even if only very slightly. You are stressing the hardware more when you overclock it. It likely shortens the lifetime of the component even if you only overclock it a bit. However, you may luck out and end up with a part that can actually handle it for the expected duration you will use it for, due to variances in manufacturing.
