not sure how the computer I was working on was setup but we could login just fine. it was just the user had no permissions to speak of.

I'm pretty sure you were just logging into the machine locally.

If you don't have a connection to the domain, and there is no local users, you cannot get onto the machine unless the admin account is enabled and you know the password.

His problem sounds more like an issue with him, rather than the computer.

my computer is part of a domain, I am not the admin and I do not have a local user account setup for myself. to test what you said I just disconnected my network cable and rebooted and was able to login to my domain account without a problem with no network access.
it would be silly if you couldn't login to a domain computer unless on the domain. if the network went down no one could use their computers at all?

What work can you do if the network isn't up? Everything is saved on a network drive in the 2 jobs I've worked. Very, very few things get saved locally.


Must be group policy settings embedded in the registry?

And you're sure that you don't have a local user account? If it is your computer you were likely set up with one.

/e quick google search reveals cached accounts, must be we don't use it.
