Yes that is without a doubt the best buy at that price. Arguably the best value of ANY TV this year in fact. (the more expensive, mid range ST50 that only comes in 50+ rivals its performance/dollar ratio)

The "T" symbolizes that the TV is 3D capable, but I heard that the models without the 'T' have inferior panels as well. Not sure though.

In any case, the UT50 is worth the extra dollar, 3D or not. the 2D picture is astounding and the contrast ratio is actually as high as a high end LED TV because its black level is so deep. Full HD 1080p resolution, 3D capable, even has 2D to 3D conversion for what its worth and an inky black level for such a low price. What a TV.

great, thanks for your input! i might try to convince the wife to let us get that.

No problem. I sometimes feel like a Panasonic salesman, but their TVs are just too good to buy anything else this year. Good luck on convincing your wife b)

heh, it might work out actually, instead of a tv in the bedroom we might just not replace that one and put a tv in the living room, where the desktop is. maybe add a blu-ray player to the PC and use it as a home theater? :P

any suggestions on a wall mount? preferably an arm that comes out of the wall?

also, does anyone have any tips on how to feed cable through walls? i have a cable line in the basement but i would need to fish it to the floor above

I'm the last person to ask about cables, my mum won't let me do dun shit with her walls.

When I get my own place and more specifically can afford to build a home from the ground up I'll have all the cables running through the walls with a dedicated cinema room b)

so i think we are going to get a panasonic plasma. here are the prices, shipping is free. tax we will have to pay on top of this (i think)

UT50 50 inch - 774.99
ST50 50 inch - 999.99

UT50 55 inch - 949.99
ST50 55 inch - 1174.99

UT50 60 inch - 1249.99
ST50 60 inch - 1474.99

for the dollar, i would say the 55 inch are better, i can see paying $175 for 5 extra inches, but not $300 for another 5'' on top of that.
is getting the ST vs UT worth an extra $225? i've read that in a dark room, the blacks aren't that different, but the UT doesnt have alterable settings and the ST does, making the ST overall better.

$225 seems like a lot of money, and that could be better spent on maybe a soundbar or subwoofer or something

its finished :(

i also noticed that the room is directly below the bedroom which has a live coaxial feed. the outlet is on the same wall we want the floor below, we would have to go across studs, however

the easiest way to do that then is either cut the sheet rocks find the coax...put a T splitter in the line and then just replace the sheet rock...with the a new junction box attached to the stud where you want it. The trick is that when u cut the sheet rock..or wall board or w/e they call it where you are...is to make SURE you cut perfectly vertical (plumb) lines on the exact center of the the studs. This will allow you to replace the sheet rock and have something to screw into.

Another much easier option is to put the splitter in the basement....and in the room where you want the coax....just pry the base molding off the wall for a foot or so in either direction...then use a 12-14" 3/8th inch drill bit and drill STRAIGHT down from exactly where you want the coax ...then pass a straighted coat hanger down thru the hole...securely tape the coax to the coat hanger and PULL it, gently back up.

There is no magic to crossing studs other than removing/replacing sheet rock.

The easiest way of all...is just drill a hole straight down...w/o prying the base molding away....if you know how to attach coax connectors...then you just need a 1/4" drill bit, 12-14 inches long

hmmm... trying to think of the easiest way to feed. because the basement ceiling is finished, and where the coax cable is in the basement, i dont think i'll be able to feed to the wall we want from below. probably will have to do it from above. i'm a little scared to be cutting a lot of drywall, and replacing it because i am worried i will not make it look good as new
