It appears that the Nvidia 30xx series is better value for the money. I would get a 3090 used, probably. Haven't researched this extensively, yet.

i7 13700k + RTX 4080 is best price/performance when looking at the options

tbh if they gave you a good deal on your current 12900k + 3080ti I would be tempted at taking that, depending on the price
The next gen hardware you're looking at is not a considerable upgrade imo

7800x3d > 7900x3d unless you're doing more than casual gaming

Thanks for the opinions and information.
Well mainly gaming a couple of AAA titles and D2R/D4, I do also stream and run multiple boxes for P8 etc.. And I wouldn't have upgraded the system if I wasn't in the situation where I had to make a private purchase anyways.

It does seems like the 7900x3D has matured quite a lot since those video reviews. and the prices has been cut with about 15%.
I've researched into the HYPR as mention. Sadly in it's current state the overall quality is nothing something I should sacrifice for the extra performance.

Been a very tough decision between the two GPU's. So decided to buy a second-hand RTX 4090, could only find 3 for sale in my country. But was able to work out a fair deal on a RTX 4090 Asus TUF OC for 1260$. 6months old, with recipt and box.

Well I own the company so technically I decide the price. But the rules are very strict around that in my country, so it has to be market value. Wasn't really interested in buying high-end used hardware from past generation :D

I think the 4090 is a good purchase in your case and you can't go wrong with X3D purchases for gaming. Just make sure that you undervolt the CPU for better performance as the cache doesn't like heat and throttles you otherwise.

I really have a difficult time to pulling the trigger on some hardware "upgrades".
Going to upgrade from 12900k + 3080ti to something else. It's something to do with current hardware is purchased in my company. I've been using the system to much privately for it make sense anymore.
So instead of buying the current hardware myself from the company, I was like nah new new new.

Initial I was thinking of a budget of 1600$. But can stretch it a bit.
Looking to purchase stuff Tuesday.

1050$ RTX 4080 16GB
880$ 7900 XTX 24GB
170$ price difference. 7900 XTX technically is the more powerful card. But seems like they are pretty much equal over a large range of games.
Thing is DLSS doesn't run on AMD and RT is much more smooth on Nvidia's. Worth the extra cost in your opinion?
Nvidia's Drivers are generally faster with optimization for games?

700$ 7900X3D + X670 Aorus Elite AX
620$ 13700k + Z790 Aorus Elite AX
With only 80$ difference, 7900X3D generally winning by a couple of percentages in games and the lower power consumption. The AMD seems like the clear winner?

edit: damnit was supposed to post this in General Hardware subforum.

What are you trying to do? Render a Pixar movie?
