hi

I have like 6 year old CPU i7 4770k 3.5hz stock speed

it has been running in my PC well for 6+ years now on stock speed and stock fan

I dont think i have ever even OC'id anything ever...so its my first time, I just want to get the most out of my old system

the rest of the set up

RAM- 16GB DDR3
MOBO - ASUS MAXIMUS HERO VI
PSU - Corsair 650W
GPU - GeForce 1050 Ti

I was thinking to go for 4.2hz speed, unsure about voltage

also i am not too keen on liquid cooler as i have shit tons of fans in my pc, which are also 6+ years old, they are fairly silent but i dont want my pc to make any more noise

i am also all about that swag, i have red set up, all my fans leds and my case is red etc... so i was thinking of this CPU cooler https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Heatpipes-RR-212TR-16PR-R1/dp/B06VWX2QLT/ref=sr_1_23?crid=1NYUQCISJ59D0&keywords=coolermaster%20cpu%20cooler&qid=1581410818&sprefix=coolermaster%20cp,aps,136&sr=8-23

OK NVM the coolermaster one is not possible to buy anywhere :((((( this looks pretty swag too > https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MC8CRVZ/ref=psdc_430499031_t5_B01KBXKP8W?th=1

any tips, advice please welcome

To get you started...

https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/5ghz-4670k-4770k-overclocking-guide-on-maximus-vi-formula/

Side note: You'll want a really good air cooler (Noctua for ex.) or even better an AIO water cooler, when overclocking. Worry about the performance of the coolers rather than the colors. You can get w/e color fans you want. :)

No point in noctua since u want red blings, just get 212 and buy a red led fan. U should oc to 4.5

+ red fan

Or

It should be fine, cpu are unique. So you need to just toy with it until you find the perfect balance btwn the clock and voltage. Otherwise just Yolo 1.2v with 4.2 and if that's stable just stick with it, otherwise start to lower the voltage to see where it's stable for 4.2

Tho u shd easily get 4.5 np

yup
but never heard a chip that really cant do 4.4 might need closer to 1.3 but still

every chip is different for most part
