PC crashed playing gta 5. Turned it off and back on, 2 vertical lines about an inch in diameter appeared. Windows won't boot in safe mode or any other more option it gives me. Will not let me restore from previous system restore point. Won't even let me reset completely such as completely wiping hard drive. Will only let me open command prompt and I can still access Bios. Did my hard drive just die? Blue screen says critical process died. Let me know if other info is needed.

Windows 10 pro, and fx 6300, Sapphire r9 270, 16gb ram, msi 970 motherboard

Sounds like your graphics card died
Your HDD should have status indicator LEDs

Thanks, I was thinking that too. But wouldn't I still be able to access safe mode? I just ran Checkdisk on command prompt says everything is fine but it "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event lot with status 50".

Not necessarily. Even without drivers your gpu will run, unless its pooched. Is the card sagging at all? Sometimes over time they sag and can lose contact with the pcie slot. Check the power cables too, if your PSU is modular you can try using another vga receptacle.

That is a normal error.

I tried another slot and still nothing, it's not sagging either. So chances are I need a new gpu?

Hard to say without testing another gpu/PSU. Computer shops can test it for ya pretty cheap (if not free)

You could check if your psu has a filter, too, if it's completely clogged up or full to the nuts with dust then it could have overheated and blown

If it were the PSU wouldn't I not get any power? I can still go through BIOS and everything, bios reads all the components. My graphics card says it's ati technologies and doesn't show any specifics. Command prompt says no instances available when searching for gpu info. Fans and light still shows on the card.

That's not how it works, hardware isn't always black and white.
Faulty hardware can create a broad range of effects.

Focus on gpu then if no change look at the psu its that simple.

As for this, you system crashed while in use, this could of corrupted data on any of the drives causing your inability to use safemode.
