So I have one of these things: http://support.logitech.com/en_ca/product/usb-desktop-microphone

Been using it for years and about 3 days ago I had a big windows update. Since then my microphone is not picking up any audio but is being recognized by the computer.

I tested it on another PC and it works fine. Haven't been able to find a driver or anything for it on Logitech's site and have no idea how to fix now. Any ideas?

Since your Mic doesn't require software, I would assume that the MS update screwed up one of your settings, or your motherboard sound driver.

The fact that it works on another PC, pretty much agrees with what I just mentioned above.

what setting could it be? The microphone level is maxed out and there aren't many other settings for a simple USB mic lol

on the motherboard audio driver thing, I actually tried reinstalling the realtek audio stuff from MSI's website just now after posting this thread and the setup just uninstalled the drivers and fails on the install giving me this error message:
I did run the installer as admin

Check device manager, and make sure it actually removed the RealTek driver.
Also your vid card driver has an HD Audio driver as well.

/e For the Nvidia driver... follow these instructions.

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

I googled this error as well: Got some things to try.

1. Open a CMD prompt as admin and type: sfc /scannow (space tween sfc and /scannow). This is Windows built in System File Checker.
2. Others said manually download the big update and reinstall it.
3. Last resort... go here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Use the media creation tool and make a new install UDSB stick, and re-install Windows 10.

There's also all this crap...

It probably did Windows Update again. IF it's a USB mic, make sure it's not breaking connection somehow. Try another USB port. They don't have this problem usually. But I do have one USB connector on my case, that won't make contact if it's all the way in. I can pull it out like 1mm and then it will make connection.

The only other thing I can think of is the mic jack. IF it's 3.5mm, they have a tendency to get "sprung" over time. To test that tyry using your mic for something local, and very gently wiggling the mic connector in the jack.
I had a couple motherboards, back in the day, that would do that to my speaker connection. Once I found the proper position where it again made contact, I would stick a tiny piece of folded paper in there to hold it in place.

It was hard to find, because it would be working and then, just my walking around the room, would make it come loose.

If you can determine that it's not just the connection, then I would go back to blaming Windows Update. Windows Updates have been notorious for messing with or corrupting drivers, over the years.
With a Windows version like 8.1 or earlier, we were able to shut off auto updates, and could wait to see, if the problem was caused by the update or not.

Another way to test would be to re-install Windows, and leave the internet unhooked, for a couple hours, and check if the mic keeps working. The allow the rehook the computer to the internet. If the mic shortly goes off again, then you will KNOW it's Windows Update.

I bought a new mic, same issue, did all sorts of driver stuff, didnt work.

BUT I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT

so in the past I used to go through the windows privacy settings and turn everything off. Now with the new update I just got, which I think is from May but I have a setting on that delays them a bit, it makes it so you need to have "let apps use my microphone" on for your mic to work.

I would make sure to unhook the mic, when not using it. This may be one of the things I read about where folks are spying on video and sound.

/e Just read another article on ArsTechnica I believe that smart TV are spying as well.
