So lets start with specs;
i7-6700k 4.0 Ghz
Gigabyte G1 Gaming 7 Mobo
16 GB G Skill ripjaws V ddr4 ram
Gigabyte founders edition GTX 1070
250 GB Samsung Evo SSD
1TB WD Black HDD
Corsair 850w Fully modular PSU
Corsair 100i Water cooler
NZXT H440 Case
windows 10

Problem: upon start up, the PC starts fine, then within 30 mins - 2 hours the PC will Lock/freeze randomly.
i could be doing anything, playing a game or watching youtube or browing a website & the pc will lock/freeze that requires a hard restart.
Now when i start my PC up and go into the apps/processes running, i close:
Microsoft store, Skype, Cortana, bonjour and the Nvidia apps.
after i close those it seems the freezing problem subsides and im able to use the pc hours on end without a problem .. trying to figure out which of them is the culprit?

Here is what you need to do, follow my steps closely and you will be successful in many ways.

1. Buy a 144hz monitor and then sell it for a 60hz one (no difference between them at all!!!)
2. Buy a $1500 headset (but make sure you buy 1 that is $600 for a REALLY great deal)
3. sell your i7 6700k, and save the $30 and then buy a used 6700 instead. This way, you can really bclk overclock it to the max

Hope that helps!

Did this freezing occur even after shutting down those apps you mentioned? If so, it may be worth it to do a clean install of Win10 to see if the problem persists. If it does, you're likely looking at some sort of hardware problem.

try different peripherals, could be a short in a cable causing this.
i've seen it like 5 times myself, pretty rare but was in the solution in each case.

interesting, all the cables were new when the PC was built and appear to be damage free, but internally could be damaged.
if the problem persists, after i install a fresh windows 10 ~ i may have to look at all my hardware.

No no, I'm saying mouse, keyboard, headset, try different ones and see if problem happens again. Even some ghetto ones laying around the house is fine :)
