My elder brother wants to start mining; I would appreciate any information you guys could provide.

What's his price range? Antminer's S5 is not too bad for the price. I would stick to either LTC or ETH for an ASIC that small though because BTC is so high right now. He can use Coinbase to trade from ETH up to BTC and hope that it hits the expected price of $10K/BTC by Jan 1. I'm not sure it will.

I wouldn't mine btc. Not that up on light coin but good luck getting Asics direct from bitmain
